Messianic Psalms
Psalm 2

This Psalm abruptly opens, with no prelude. It is a statement of amazement, brought from the soul and breaking from the lips of one who looks out upon the nations and generations of man. He recognizes and is aware of the perpetual restlessness, and never-ending movement of discontent, the throbbing of a rebellion that cannot be soothed, of a bitter, ceaseless and useless revolt. The rebellion against GOD that exists in the vast ignorant masses of the world, is seriously found in their leaders and in all the enemies of GOD. It is because of this that the psalmist dares ask a question: Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
WHY does the world fight against the government of God? WHY do people challenge GOD?
If we study the reasons of the world's rebellion against GOD, they may be clearly found in the teaching of those whom the multitudes blindly follow: godless fame, godless power, godless wealth, and godless minds. All of these are represented by the kings and rulers of the Earth.

The psalmist sees the utter futility of revolt against GOD; he recognizes the strength of the Almighty GOD on His eternal throne; he sees the strength, majesty and glory of GOD, looking down on all the feeble, fools of the world that sets themselves against the All-powerful GOD. He can find no other words to express the utter vanity of man's revolt than to say: He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. GOD'S answer to all the rebellion of the nations is a reaffirming of the sovereignty of CHRIST. I have set My King upon My holy hill. Dear one, CHRIST JESUS is GOD’S well-beloved Son. You are wise indeed if you pay strict attention to Him.

There are those who think that David wrote this Psalm after he had taken Jerusalem from the Jebusites, and made it the head of the kingdom (2 Sam.5:7-9). When the Philistines heard about it, they camped in the valley of Rephaim, close to Jerusalem. Josephus says that all Syria, Phoenicia, and the other warlike people, united their armies with the Philistines, hoping to destroy David before he had strengthened himself in his kingdom. David, having gone to the LORD in prayer (2 Sam.5:17-19), put up a battle, totally overthrowing the all his enemies. We could consider that this Psalm was written to celebrate the taking of Jerusalem, and the overthrow of all the kings of the neighboring nations. We find from the use made of this Psalm by the apostles (Acts 4:26-27), that David is considered a type of CHRIST; and that the Psalm celebrates the victories of the Gospel over the Philistines and all the confederate power of the heathen governors of the Roman Empire.

The first Psalm shows us the perfect and happy man, which I think is the LORD JESUS CHRIST as the last Adam (1 Cor.15:45). Psalm 2 shows us a rebellious man in direct opposition to the perfect, blessed man in Psalm 1. Some call this the Genesis section of the Book of Psalms, for the parallel is outstanding. Genesis began with the perfect, happy man in the Garden of Eden. But it was not long before Adam became rebellious, and tried to hide from GOD. He no longer tried to seek the LORD, for he had no desire to do so . . . and here in Psalm 2, we find the children of Adam. Psalm 2 contains a crucial announcement concerning the outcome of events and forces that are so rampant in the world today.

Theme: man's ridiculous rebellion against GOD.

To put this Psalm in its proper setting, we must look ahead to the close of the Great Tribulation Period, just before the glorious Return and reign of the Lord JESUS CHRIST (Zec.14:1-5; Rev.19:11-21). At that time, a massive union of rulers from all nations shall unite in an anxious determination to stop CHRIST from taking control of world government.

Threats Against the Enemies of CHRIST'S Kingdom (2:1-6)

We are told here who would appear as opponents to CHRIST. Since this world today, is the kingdom of Satan, unconverted men, unbelievers in Jesus, of every rank, party and character, are stirred up by him to aggressively oppose the cause of GOD, in which the rulers of the Earth in general have been very active. The truths and teachings of the Gospel of Jesus CHRIST are firmly against persistent plans against the LORD and worldly lusts. What their aim is in their hostility is to break away from the bands of conscience and GOD's commandments, which they refuse to obey, but cast them as away from them as they can. The devil and his children (1 Jn.3:10; 3 Jn.1:11), plot together against the LORD and against the King He chose. There shall be absolutely NO success in opposing such a powerful King and Kingdom (Rev.19:11-21). The LORD Jesus has all power both in heaven and in earth (Mat.28:18; Heb.2:8; 1 Pet.3:22; Rev.11:15), and He is Head over all things to the church (Eph.1:22). None of His enemies have a chance on Judgment Day, unless they change from that devil’s broad road to Hell, to the narrow path of light with JESUS (Mat.7:13-14; Jn.8:12; 12:46).

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? (KJV)

Why do the heathen rage? . . . what provoked it? What was the reason? The heathen, or Gentiles who did so against David (2 Sam.5:6, 17; 1 Chron.14:8), and against CHRIST (Lk.18:32; Acts 4:25).
And the people . . . this I think, probably refers to the Jews or Israelites, who also joined against David (2 Sam.2:8), and against CHRIST (Acts 4:27), and although they were all of one nation, and descended from the same mother, as this word signifies, and it is used (Gen.25:23).
Imagine a vain thing . . . dream up something that they shall never be able to put into effect; and even if they could, it would bring only great hurt.

Psalm 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, (KJV)

The kings of the earth set themselves. . . the kings (2 Sam.5:1-25; 8:1-18), or possibly Herod the Great, and the other Herod, and Pilate, and others after them. Of the earth . . . so called in way of contempt, revealing their stupidity in opposing the Almighty Lord GOD of Heaven. Set themselves . . . the shows their stubborn persistence and blatant hostility.
And the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD . . . against the LORD, plotting against the LORD and His anointed, and against His counsel and command. And . . . many then and in today’s world,fight against the GOD whom they pretended to love, own and worship.
And against his anointed . . . they fight against the ONE King whom GOD has chosen and exalted (CHRIST JESUS), and wonderfully accomplished and set Him up for His work and His service. Since the Lord GOD prepared CHRIST for this task, He shall certainly defend Him to the fullest against all His enemies.

*****Not only does mankind protest, but also the higher ups have joined in with it, both the religious and political rulers join together. What are they protesting? Who is it that they are against? The Bible says: Against the LORD, and against His Anointed. His anointed means the MESSIAH the CHRIST! Dear one, the devil and his many children have a great worldwide movement that is against Almighty GOD and against CHRIST, His Anointed One! BEWARE!!!

When did this movement start? The Holy Word of GOD tells us. Acts 4:24-26 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. (KJV)

Have you ever stopped to really consider the words? Lord, thou art God. Multitudes are not sure that JESUS is GOD. They wonder. The early church had no doubts, no questions.
Acts 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, (KJV)
When this movement began, we are told that Pilate joined up with the religious rulers and Herod to put JESUS to death. This movement is against GOD and His CHRIST. It has vastly increased as it came down through the centuries, and it will break out finally in a worldwide revolution against GOD and against His CHRIST in the latter days.

When God gave the Ten Commandments, He did not give one against atheism. He gave two against polytheism: Exodus 20:3-4 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (KJV)
He gave these two commandments against polytheism, none against atheism. Why? There were no atheists, until the time of David. Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (KJV)
The word fool in the Hebrew means insane. It is insane for a man to say there is no GOD.

Let’s go back to this again: Exodus 20:3-4 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (KJV)

Catholics have graven images in their homes and are abundant in their churches. Dear one, THAT is idolatry! And idolatry is a sin.

Psalm 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. (KJV)

Let us break their bands asunder . . . break their bands . . . this speaks of the Lord GOD’S and His Anointed One’s bands, which they see as chains put on their necks, to bring them into subjection. They mean the laws of GOD, which the King would force them to observe, which even though easy and pleasant in themselves and to good men (Mat.11:29-30; 1 Jn.5:3), yet are very grievous and burdensome to the corrupt and immoral nature, and to men of wicked lives.
Cast away their cords from us . . . the same thing expressed here with a little more stress. They not only want to break off their yoke, and the cords by which it is tied to them, but want them cast far away from them, that they may never be brought into bondage again. Cast away their cords from us . . . the Ten Commandments are cords. We are NOT saved by keeping them . . . but GOD gave them, and He gave them to protect mankind. They are thrown out the door today, and this country is experiencing lawlessness because crime is not being punished. People want to break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. They want to be free and do as they please. But, dear one, the Lord GOD says their way will NOT work. He is in control!

*****Verses 1-3 tell us that the federation of world government shall prove to be a waste of time. How the Gentile kings and Jewish rulers could even begin to think that they could rebel against the authority of the Lord GOD and His Anointed, and succeed, is utterly ridiculous!

Psalm 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. (KJV)

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh . . . He that sitteth, CHRIST as the Judge in His court, and as the King of the whole world upon His royal throne (Ps. 9:4,7; 11:4; 45:6; 47:8; 93:2; 103:19), who, without stirring from His place, can with one look or one word destroy all His enemies. In the heavens . . . this is opposed to the kings reigning upon Earth (2:2), and is mentioned here, as it is in other places of Scripture, as evidence of GOD'S clear and certain knowledge of all things that are done below (Ps.11:4), and of His sovereign and irresistible power (Ps.115:3). Shall laugh . . . shall both despise and ridicule them, and all their crafty ideas, which He shall reveal to the world to be ridiculous and contemptible (2Ki.19:21; Ps.37:13).
The LORD shall have them in derision . . . the LORD shall mock and ridicule their attempts.

*****The LORD shall laugh, if we look at this as GOD sees it . . . little worldly man parading up and down, shaking his fist in GOD’S Face, telling Him to come and fight, for I am against You. The great and Almighty GOD looks down at that puny little creature in his stupidity. It is all so ridiculous, that GOD looks down and laughs them to scorn. It is so utterly ridiculous, dear one, foolish little men putting themselves in opposition to GOD will not be around very long. Little man plays his brief role in life, then his part is over. How absurd for him to oppose GOD!

Psalm 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. (KJV)

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath . . . then, in the midst of all their plots and self-assurances of success. Shall he speak to them in his wrath . . . the LORD shall severely rebuke them, not so much in words as in reality, by dreadful judgments. GOD'S speaking is often put for His actions.
And vex them in his sore displeasure . . . vex them is explained by difficult and troublesome, or He shall pronounce a terrible sentence against them. This is the judgment that is to come upon this Earth in the latter days.

*****What effect will man's opposition have upon GOD'S program? GOD shall go forward to accomplishment what He has in mind. What little man does down here will not deter Him, not even a little bit, nor will it detour Him. There is nothing that He did not already know about, there is nothing that shall surprise Him. GOD is moving according to His plan, and nothing will change His mind.

Psalm 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. (KJV)

Yet . . . aside from all their pretenses and powerful unions. Have I set . . . I have anointed, planned, appointed or established, as this word is commonly used in Scripture, as of priests (1 Chron.29:22), and of prophets (1 Ki.19:16, 19-20). And also of kings (Judg.9:8,15; 2 Sam.2:4; 3:39; Eze.28:14). My king, in a single way, who does not have His Kingdom by succession from former kings, nor by election of the people, as other kings have, but by GOD’S special and extraordinary purpose; and who rules in His stead, and according to His will, and for His service and glory.
Upon my holy hill of Zion . . . GOD’S King shall be over His church and His people. Zion is properly and rightly taken was a hill on the north part of Jerusalem (Ps.48:2), where there was a strong fort which when David had taken, he called it the city of David (2 Sam.5:7,9), and made it the head of his kingdom. But in a more large and improper sense it is often put for the city Jerusalem (Ps.48:12; 87:2; 110:2), and for the Temple of Jerusalem (Ps.137:3; Isa.18:7; Jer.51:10), which was built upon the hill of Moriah, which was either a part of Mount Zion, or another hill next to it; and for the church of the Jews (Ps.65:1; 69:35; 97:8), and for the Gospel church (Heb.12:22; Rev.14:1). And it is by these things it is quite clear why Zion is here called God's holy hill.

*****The Almighty Lord GOD in the Heavens shall laugh at their contempt, disrespect and hatred. He will mock their boasts and threats as that of a bug, about to be smashed by His Foot! They shall hear His irrevocable decision: I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Once GOD the FATHER has stated this FACT, its fulfillment is as certain as if it had already taken place!

Dear one, GOD is moving forward today, with no hesitating, nor compromising to establish that throne on which CHRIST JESUS shall sit in the Millennial Kingdom, on this Earth. So many fools say that people have been saying for centuries that CHRIST shall return, and He’s not here yet. 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (KJV) . . . But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing . . . be sure of it (2 Pet. 3:5). Peter cautions them against the ignorance of scoffers, and to try to prevent it from happening to them, telling them that they would have to know this one thing, which exists in the Scripture, that being the prophecy of CHRIST'S Coming (Ps.98:9; Dan. 7:13-14; Zec.14:4; Mat.10:23; 26:64; Mark 13:26,35; 14:62; Luke 9:26; 19:15; 21:27; John 21:22; Acts 1:11; 1 Cor. 11:26; 15:23; Heb. 9:28; 2 Pet. 3:10). Then see: Rev.19:11-21.
The scoffers' objection was that much time had come and gone since those prophecies, and He still had NOT come! The reply of the apostle is, for that which may seem to be a long time to us is a very brief period with GOD.
That one day is with the Lord as a thousand years . . . there is something very similar in: Psalms 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. (KJV) . . . What Peter is trying to get across to his readers is, a thousand years is a LONG period of time . . . to us humans . . . but to our eternal GOD, nothing is past, nothing is future, but all things present, there is NO difference of time, so a thousand years to Him is like a blink of an eye with us. The scoffers refuse to believe this fact, so they just cannot see all the centuries of the LORD'S delay in coming. It just does not make any sense at all to those Biblically ignorant.

Psalm 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. (KJV)

I will declare the decree . . . these words seem to have been spoken by the MESSIAH. He would declare to the world the decree, the purpose of GOD, to redeem them by His Blood (1 Pet.1:18-19), and to sanctify them by His SPIRIT (Rom.15:16; 1 Cor.6:11). He declares that His death shall prove that the required atonement has been made and His resurrection shall prove that this atonement has been accepted by His FATHER.
The LORD hath said unto me . . . GOD the FATHER had said unto His only begotten SON, in a private conversation,
Thou art my Son . . . CHRIST was made Man (Jn.1:14), was born of a woman by the creative energy of the HOLY SPIRIT, that He may feel and suffer for sinful man, and be the firstborn of many brethren (Rom.8:29).
This day have I begotten thee . . . by the resurrection of JESUS (Mat.28:6-7; Acts 1:3; 1 Cor. 15:3-4, 20; Rev.1:5, 18). The Lord GOD declared CHRIST JESUS to be the SON of GOD, by miraculous power, being raised from the dead. So, by His wondrous and supernatural origin, most extraordinary death, and miraculous resurrection, Thou art declared to be the SON of GOD. And as in that Son dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Col.2:9), all the sufferings and the death of that human nature were stamped with extremely praiseworthy effectiveness. We have the apostle Paul's authority for applying to the resurrection of our LORD these words:
Acts 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. (KJV)
Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee . . . thou art my Son; which though it may in some sort be said to or of David, who was in some respects the son of God, and begotten by him, as all believers are, Joh 1:12; 1Jo 3:9; Jas 1:18; yet much more truly and properly belongs to Christ, who is commonly known by this title both in the Old and New Testament, as Pr 30:4; Ho 11:1; Mt 2:15; 3:17; 4:3, 6, and oft elsewhere; and to whom this title is expressly appropriated by the HOLY GHOST, who is the best interpreter of his own words, Ac 13:33; Heb 1:5; 5:5, and to whom alone the following passages belong.
This day have I begotten thee . . . this day does not mark the origin of CHRIST’S Son-ship, but the period of the declaration of this decree, be that when it might. The open display of its fulfilment was, when CHRIST was declared to be the SON of GOD with power by His resurrection from the dead. This day . . . from all eternity, which is well described by this day, because in eternity there is no succession, no yesterday, no tomorrow, but it is all as one continued day or moment, without change.

*****CHRIST JESUS Himself adds His testimony here. He reveals that in a private conversation between His FATHER and Himself, that His Father had told Him: Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Some say that this can be understood in several ways:
(1). CHRIST was the SON of GOD, from all eternity (Ge.1:1; Jn.1:1).
(2). CHRIST’S incarnation, becoming Man (Isa.7:14; Lk.1:31-35; Jn.1:14; Acts 13:33). (3). CHRIST was begotten in His resurrection (Acts 26:23; 1 Cor.15:20-23; Col.1:18; Rev.1:5).

The reference in the Psalm 2 is NOT to the birth of JESUS. He never was begotten (brought about), in the sense of having a beginning. CHRIST JESUS the SON of GOD, like His FATHER, had NO beginning! John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. (KJV)

It seems to me that, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee, refers to CHRIST’S resurrection. CHRIST was begotten out of Joseph's tomb (Mat.27:59-60). JESUS is the eternal SON of GOD (Jn.1:1-2) and CHRIST JESUS is the everlasting Father (Isa.9:6). GOD the FATHER, GOD the SON and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT make up our awesome triune GOD! Promise to CHRIST as the Head of This Kingdom (2:7-9)

The Millennial Kingdom of the MESSIAH is founded upon an eternal decree of GOD the FATHER. Our Lord JESUS often referred to it, as what He governed Himself by. GOD had said to Him, Thou art my Son (Mat.3:17; 17:5; Mk.1:11; Lk.3:22; 9:35; 2 Pet.1:17-18), and it is only right for each of us to say to Him, Thou art my beloved LORD. GOD the SON, in asking for the heathen as His inheritance (2:8), wants their happiness, so that He pleads for them, ever living to be able to do so, and is able to save to the uttermost (Heb.7:25), and He shall have multitudes of willing, loyal subjects, among them. TRUE Christians are the possession of the LORD Jesus; they are so to Him for a name and a praise. GOD the FATHER gives them to Him (Jn.10:29), when by His SPIRIT and grace, He works upon them to submit to the Lord JESUS.

Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. (KJV)

Ask of me . . . that is, ask of GOD. This is a part of the decree or purpose, as mentioned in Verse 7. That decree embraced not only the design to establish CHRIST JESUS as His SON, in the sense that He was to be King in Zion, but also the purpose to give Him a dominion embracing the heathen and the uttermost parts of the earth. This wide dominion was to be given to Him on condition that he would ask for it, as a result keeping up the idea that the Lord GOD, as such, is the Great Source of Authority and empire, and that the MESSIAH, as such occupies a rank lower than Him. This relation of the FATHER and Son is everywhere recognized in the New Testament. Dear one, we can be sure that the MESSIAH (the GOD-Man) will ask for this, and it follows that the world will one day be brought under His scepter. Also, it may be added that as this wide dominion is promised to the MESSIAH only on condition that He asks for it (prays for it), much more is it true that we sinful humans can hope for this and for no favor from GOD, unless we ask for it by earnest prayer.
And I shall give thee . . . GOD will give it to Him, He would in due course give Him this possession. There is no specific time given when this would be done, but this prophecy shall be fulfilled in the latter days.
The heathen . . . the nations (2:1); meaning the world. When this Psalm was written, the world would be spoken of as divided into Hebrews and other nations; the people of GOD and nations (Gentiles, foreigners). The same division is often referred to in the New Testament under the terms Jew and Gentile, as the Greeks divided all the world into Greeks and barbarians. The word would now embrace all the nations which are not under the influence of the TRUE religion.
For thine inheritance . . . thy heritage; thy portion as GOD’S Son. There is a reference here to the fact that he had established Him as His SON, and so it was proper to speak of Him as the heir of all things (Heb.1:4).
And the uttermost parts of the earth . . . the furthest regions of the world. This Promise would correctly embrace all the world as then known, as it is now known, and as it shall be in the latter days.
For thy possession . . . meaning when CHRIST is King; GOD the FATHER would give to His SON all the nations as His inheritance, and the whole Earth as His possession.

Consider: (1). this can be fulfilled only in the Lord JESUS CHRIST. It was not true of David nor any other Hebrew ruler. Their dominions extended, only for a time, and but little beyond the bounds of Palestine, embracing just a very small part of the Earth. (2). This Promise is to be understood as still in full force. It has never been cancelled or recalled, and although its fulfillment seems by millions to be long delayed or postponed, but because no time was specified, its meaning and importance have not been disregarded by GOD. When there is no time or date specified, it should be considered as prophecy of future events. (3). This Promise shall in the latter day be fulfilled.
It is clearly thought in this Promise that the MESSIAH would ask for this; and it is earnestly affirmed that if He did, this tremendous inheritance would be granted to Him. Dear one, the entire world is to be considered as given by Covenant of GOD the FATHER to CHRIST JESUS, the Holy SON of GOD, and in due time He shall set up His dominion over the Earth, and rule over all mankind. This period shall indeed come, when the actual scepter of the MESSIAH (CHRIST) shall be waved over the nations of the Earth, when it shall be His right to give laws and to reign will be acknowledged from the rising to the setting of the sun. This is the only thing in the future that is without doubt known to us, and this is enough to make everything in our future bright. Dear one, the scepter of this Universe will be held by a Man with nail-pierced Hands. He is the One, and the only One who is to rule eternity!

*****GOD the FATHER has promised Universal dominion to His only begotten Son. Dear one, ALL the people of the Earth shall one day submit to the authority of CHRIST, for He shall rule the entire world!

Psalm 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. (KJV)

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron . . . not His inheritance and possession among the Gentiles, the chosen ones given to Him by the Father (Jn.10:28-29); these He delights in, takes care of, protects and preserves. The ones He shall break with a rod of iron are the stubborn and rebellious ones among the heathen, who refuse to have Him to reign over them, those who treat Him with contempt, reject His government, disobey His Gospel, and scorn His commands. The Jews were dispossessed of their land, their city was razed to its foundations, their Temple was burnt with fire, and many were slaughtered by the Romans. So heavily did the iron rod of GOD'S judgments fall upon them for their obstinate unbelief.
Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel . . . smashing a clay pot is very easy to do with an iron rod, and the pieces can never be put back together again: so that by this symbol is indicated for the easy and permanent ruin of the wicked (Isa.30:14). This shows that they would be so crumbled into dust that they would be scattered around as with the wind; which, as far as it relates to the Jews, was fulfilled in their destruction by the Romans, and will have its accomplishment in the anti-Christian nations at the latter day.

*****GOD has given CHRIST total authority to deal with ALL disobedience and rebellion. He shall rule with a rod of iron, breaking in pieces like a clay pot, all who disobey Him. This passage has no reference to CHRIST'S First Coming. This speaks of His Second Coming, when He comes to this Earth to judge (Zec.14:1-5; Rev.19:11-21). Advice to All, Accept the Truth of GOD’S Word (2:10-12)

Whatever we rejoice in, in this world, it must always be with trembling, because of the uncertainty of all things in it. To welcome CHRIST JESUS, and to submit to Him, is wisdom and concern. He must be very dear and precious to us; we must love JESUS more than anything or anyone, anywhere . . . we must love Him above all else, love Him from the depths of our hearts in sincerity, love Him as much as the woman did, to whom much was forgiven, and as a sign of her heartfelt gratitude, kissed His Feet (Lu.7:38).

We too must, with a kiss of loyalty to our precious Lord JESUS, take His yoke upon us (Mat.11:29-30), and give ourselves up to be governed by His laws, and be bold, confident and willing by His wisdom, and be completely devoted to His cause. Unbelief in or denial of Jesus is a SIN against the ONLY Remedy (Jn.14:6; Acts 4:12). This sin shall be the utter destruction of all unbelievers! BEWARE!!!

Psalm 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. (KJV)

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings . . . these words are not made so much to the kings of the Earth in David's time, as to those who would be under the Gospel dispensation, and times of the MESSIAH; and mainly those who would rise up, and set themselves against the Lord GOD and His Anointed (2:2). Be wise now, therefore, O ye kings . . . this appeal is addressed to the rulers and princes whom the psalmist saw engaged in opposition to the purpose of GOD (2:1-3), and henceforth to ALL rulers and princes to act in wisdom, by not trying to resist the plans of GOD, but to willingly submit to Him, and do all they could to secure His friendship. The psalmist warns of what would without doubt come to the enemies of the MESSIAH. They must stop their futile attempts to oppose His reign, and submit to Him, to ensure His friendship, and to escape the doom that must come upon all His enemies. Dear one, the way of wisdom is not to get involved in an effort in which they would certainly be crushed, but to secure at once the friendship of one appointed by GOD to reign over the Earth.
Be instructed, ye judges of the earth . . . those who are under the kings, being appointed by them to hear causes and administer justice; they answer to the Sanhedrim of the Jews (2:2). These are urged to receive instructions, not in things political and civil they may be well acquainted with; but in things religious and evangelical, in the worship of GOD, in the Gospel of CHRIST, and in His ordinances. *****Be wise, O ye kings is an appeal of the Gospel to the rulers of all kingdoms, nations, and states, to whom it may be sent. All these should listen to its sayings, be governed by its precepts, and rule their subjects according to its dictates. Be instructed, ye judges is be ye converted, cast away all your false sayings (Mat.15:9), and receive the Gospel as the law of the land. Mathew 6:9-10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (KJV) . . . Psalm 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. (KJV)

Serve the Lord with fear . . . with reverence, with deep fears of the results of not serving and obeying Him. Fear (reverence) GOD with the honor and respect that is due Him. Serve Him as subjects should their King, and as servants should their Master.
And rejoice with trembling . . . with respect, reverence and awe, feeling and knowing that He has almighty power, and that the penalties of being found to oppose Him are overwhelming and awful. The duty ordered to kings and rulers is to welcome the purposes of GOD, and to promote the reign of Truth on the Earth. This is a duty binding on kings and princes as well as on all men. If we serve GOD properly, we shall be happy, but we must always have a continual reverence in all our joys, because we all shall stand before the Great Judge one day.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. *****In Verses 10-11, the HOLY SPIRIT shall move in an evangelistic appeal, urging kings and rulers to love and serve the LORD. Anyone who refuses to obey Him will mean utter destruction, while those who listen to Him and trust Him, He brings peace, safety and joy. Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. (KJV)
Wherefore I say unto you . . . when the LORD uses these words, a very hard lesson follows. But I say unto you: (Mat.5:22,28,32,34.39,44; 11:22,24; 12:6,36; 17:12; 26:29; Mk.9:13; Lk.6:27; 10:12; Jn.6:36).
All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men . . . (Mk.3:29). Blasphemy is brazenness, contempt, disrespect, impertinence, irreverence and sacrilege against Almighty God. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit here condemned, is the evil speech just made by the Pharisees, in which a work performed by the Holy Spirit was attributed to Satan. This sin is most likely what John refers to when he says: 1 John 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. (KJV) . . . Blasphemy against the HOLY SPIRIT was giving credit to the miracles of JESUS to Satanic influence and assistance, when they were done by the SPIRIT of GOD, of which the Pharisees themselves were aware. They say that the Jews have a saying, that GOD pardons all sins except lasciviousness (lust; immorality, exciting sexual desires), but this is NOT what Jesus says.
But the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, shall not be forgiven unto men . . . I do not think this particular sin is possible today because Jesus is no longer on Earth performing miracles through the HOLY SPIRIT. But, I do think that there is an "unpardonable" sin that can be committed in today’s world. It is resisting the HOLY SPIRIT by way of denying the deity of CHRIST, denying that He is GOD; resisting Him in the Gospel; knowingly and willfully committing sin . . . to name a few. It is a despiteful usage of the SPIRIT of grace, by opposing, contradicting and denying the things done by Him, the doctrines revealed by Him, going against a man's own light and conscience, out of willful and stubborn hatred and malice. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, in today’s world, is resisting the Holy Spirit: (Acts 5:9; Rom.2:4; Eph.4:30; 1 Thes.5:19; Heb.10:26-29; 1 Jn.5:16).

Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (KJV)

Kiss the Son . . . kiss the Son is the Old Testament way of saying, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31). Kiss the Son is to welcome CHRIST JESUS into your heart (Rev.3:20), and to gladly and willingly submit to Him. This is what TRUE Christians do; and is what is required of all people, even kings and judges, and it is wise that we do this, and in our best interest to do it. The SON of GOD (2:7), is CHRIST, who is GOD'S elect, chosen to be the Redeemer and Saviour of His people, and who is absolutely pure and free from all sin, original and actual (1 Pet.2:22; 1 Jn.3:5).
Lest he be angry . . . although CHRIST JESUS is a Lamb (Jn.1:29, 36; Rev.5:6; 7:17), He does have wrath in Him, and when the great day of His wrath comes (Rev.6:15-17). The kings of the Earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy people, the people with great power, and every slave and every free person . . . EVERYONE hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They cried out to the mountains and the rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of their wrath has come, and who shall be able to stand?
Grandeur, riches, valor, strength . . . NONE of these things will be able to support ANYONE at this time! People shall know that it is GOD sitting on His Throne that has caused this calamity. ALL humans, great and small, shall be terrified! They will beg the mountains to fall on them so they don’t have to face the judgment of the Lamb. This will be the most pathetic and tragic prayer meeting ever! They will pray for death that will not come!
This vivid picture is NOT intended to scare TRUE believers. For them, the Lamb is a gentle SAVIOUR and SHEPHERD. But, ALL those generals, emperors, kings, well known celebrities, AND common folk, who previously showed NO fear of GOD and blatantly flaunted their unbelief and rejection of CHRIST will KNOW they were wrong (Isa.45:22-23; Phil.2:10-11), and that they shall face GOD'S wrath. And ye perish from the way . . . one version renders it from His way, the SON'S way; another says from the righteous way, and another from the way of righteousness, meaning that ONE way of righteousness, salvation and eternal life by CHRIST JESUS (Jn.14:6; Acts 4:12), which when missed by people, means they are eternally lost and condemned to Hell (Jn.3:18, 36; 1 Jn.5:10-12). You want NO part of the second death (Rev.2:11; 20:6, 14; 21:8).
When his wrath is kindled but a little . . . either a tiny bit, or just for a little while; you want no part of it, for no matter the duration, it is intolerable. Who is it that can dwell in everlasting burnings,(Isa.33:14), or abide in the devouring flames (Isa.66:15; Lk.16:24)?
Blessed are all they that put their trust in him . . . we cannot put our trust in horses and chariots (Ps.20:7; Isa. 31:1), nor in riches and honors (Ps.49:6; 62:10; Mk.10:24; 1 Tim.6:17), nor in their own wisdom, strength, and righteousness (Isa.64:4; Mat.7:21-23; Gal.6:3). We must place our trust in the only begotten SON of GOD, the Lord JESUS CHRIST, Who is truly and rightly GOD. We must look only to Him, accept, believe and trust in Him for pardon, peace, a daily supply of grace, righteousness (1 Cor.1:30), and eternal life (Jn.3:15-16). All these blessings can be safe and secure ONLY in JESUS! IF we want to go to Heaven, where the FATHER is, we must go through JESUS (Jn.14:6; Acts 4:12)! He is the only Way to get there! This great truth is stated everywhere in the Bible; and to encourage the children of men, weak, guilty and helpless, to put their trust in the SON of GOD, is the great plan of all the communications which GOD has made to mankind.

The false teachers refused to remember (or admit) that God judged the world, just like multi-millions today! God’s WORD created the firmament. He commanded the Earth to appear out of the water and it did! (Gen.1:9-10). Every plant and animal needs water to keep it alive (Gen.2:5-6).
There was a judgment in the pre-Adamic world, before man was put here (Isa.14:12-14; Rev.12:9).
Things that People Are Willingly Ignorant Of:

#1. That by the Word of GOD the Heavens were created of old (2 Pet.3:5; Ps.68:33; 102:25; Mic.5:2).
#2. That the Earth was established in and out of water (2 Pet.3:5; Ps.24:2; 136:6).
#3. That "the world that then was" (2 Pet.3:6; Gen.1:2; Ps. 104:5-9; Jer.4:23-26; Isa.14:12-14; Eze.28:11-17).
#4.That with the GOD who inhabits eternity, a thousand years is like a day and a day like a thousand years. (2 Pet.3:8-9; Ps.90:4; Isa.57:15; Eph.3:11).
#5. That the LORD is NOT slack concerning His Promises but is longsuffering to all men, wishing that all would come to repentance (2 Pet.3:9; 1 Tim.2:4; Rev.22:17).
#6. That the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night, in which day (the end of it) the heavens and the earth will be renovated and made new a third time (2 Pet.3:10-13; Isa.65:17; 66:22-24; Rev.21-22).
#7. That all rebellion will then be put down (2 Pet.3:13; 1 Cor. 15:24-28).
#8. That the righteous natural people left on Earth after the war (Rev.20:7-10) will multiply and replenish the new Earth forever, carrying out God's original program for Adam, as would have been done if man had not sinned (2 Pet.3:13; Gen.1:26-31; 8:22; 9:12; Isa.9:6-7; Dan.7:13-14,27; Mat.25:34,46; Lk.1:32-33; Rev. 11:15; Rev. 21:1 through Rev. 22:5).
#9. That the resurrected saints, will be heirs of GOD and joint heirs with CHRIST and will reign as kings and priests on Earth (2 Pet.3:13; Ps.149:5-9; Rom. 8:17; 1 Cor.4:8; 6:2; Eph.2:7; 2 Tim. 2:12; 2 Thes.1:4-10; Rev.1:6; 2:26-27; 5:9-10; 11:15; 20:4-6; 22:5).

This ignorance of the Biblical facts is not GOD'S fault. These ignorant ones are willingly ignorant, choosing to remain in darkness, and scoffing at the Second Coming of CHRIST, denying Him who bought them with His own Blood (2 Pet. 2:1; 3:5,8-10). They shut their eyes to the light so abundantly offered to them and refuse to believe any and all evidence that it is a FACT!

The wrath of the Lamb is a paradox (a statement that seems to contradict itself, but in fact is true). GOD created the lamb to represent CHRIST. The Lamb is a symbol of gentleness and meekness. From the days of Abel to John the Baptist, Christ is depicted as a Lamb. But, just suppose this Lamb were to get angry. What then? What about the ‘other side’ of CHRIST? The wrath? Jesus DID get angry (John 2:15), and He made a whip and chased the money changers out of the Temple. JESUS is GOD! He is righteous and holy and pure; and He hates everything that is contrary to Himself! He does NOT hate what you and I hate, He is NOT vindictive or malicious. Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (KJV) If we look at the world around us, we can’t help but see it revealing the wrath of GOD. CHRIST the Lamb, will one day be the supreme Judge of ALL mankind whether you accept this fact or not. And He will most certainly show and express His wrath on ALL ungodliness. His wrath and judgment shall absolutely come! Christians (TRUE believers, TRUE children of GOD) are called to an already definite course; that strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life (Mat. 7:13-14).
