????Is JESUS Really GOD????

Chapter 6, Jesus’ Anointing

Jesus’ Anointing

Psalm 10:16 The Lord is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. (KJV) God reigns. Jesus is GOD! The wicked may be successful for a time, but they shall be cut off, count on it. God hears and strengthens the hearts of His suffering people (Ps.112:7); He executes justice for the feeble, and represses the pride and violence of proud and arrogant (Ps. 9:16), and He hears the prayers of the humble. God is good!

Psalm 45:6-7 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. [7] Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. (KJV) The divine nature of God is all important! The immoral character of humans is why we should seek mediatorial victory through Jesus (1 John 2:1). God loves righteousness and hates wickedness. We must love righteousness and hate all that is evil. Jesus could be the Father’s “Anointed” because He had NO wickedness at all within Him (Isa.53:9; 2 Cor.5:21; 1 Pet.2:21-25; Heb.7:26).

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (KJV) Jesus’ ever peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of David. God the Father will see to this.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (KJV) Is upon me; because . . . hath anointed me . . . quoted by Jesus as His credentials in preaching.

Luke 4:18-21 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, [19] To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. [20] And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. [21] And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. (KJV) Jesus spoke by divine appointment. He was divinely inspired to speak. There can be NO doubt that Isaiah 61:1 was referring to the Messiah. Here, our Saviour directly applies it to Himself. Isaiah 61:1 really cannot be applied to any Old Testament prophet. It speaks of JESUS!

Acts 10:37-38 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; [38] How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (KJV) When John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan River, it set Him apart to begin His Work. John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. (KJV) By measure means not in a small degree, but completely. Old Testament prophets were inspired on particular occasions to deliver special messages. But, the Messiah was continually filled with the Spirit of God. The Spirit dwelt in Jesus, not simply as a vessel, but as an everlasting Fountain, flowing from a bottomless ocean. Jesus is God!
